What's the difference between skim and re-plaster?
Skimming is a thin 2–3mm finishing coat applied over existing plaster or plasterboard to create a smooth surface. Re-plastering involves removing old plaster down to the brick or block and applying a full coat (10–15mm).
How long does plaster take to dry?
New plaster takes approximately 4 weeks to fully dry before painting. You can tell it's ready when the colour changes from dark to a consistent pale pink/white throughout.
Can I plaster over old plaster?
Often yes, if the old plaster is sound. A plasterer will check for hollow spots and loose areas. If the old plaster is crumbling or damp-damaged, full removal is recommended.
