NMW vs NLW
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) applies to all workers under 21. The National Living Wage (NLW) is the higher rate for workers aged 21 and over. Both are legally binding minimums set by the government each April.

Who is not entitled to minimum wage?
Self-employed workers, company directors, volunteers, armed forces, and family members working in a family business may not be entitled to NMW.
Does minimum wage apply to zero-hours contracts?
Yes. All workers on zero-hours contracts are entitled to be paid NMW for every hour worked.
Can employers deduct money from minimum wage?
Deductions for uniforms, tools, or other employer-required items cannot reduce pay below the NMW. This is illegal.
