What is the UC taper rate?
For every £1 you earn above the Work Allowance, your Universal Credit is reduced by 55p. This is called the 'taper rate'.
What is the Work Allowance?
The Work Allowance is how much you can earn before UC starts being reduced. It's £404/month if you get the housing element, or £673/month if you don't.
How often is UC paid?
Universal Credit is paid monthly in arrears. Your first payment usually arrives around 5 weeks after you make your claim.
Does savings affect UC?
If you have savings between £6,000 and £16,000, your UC is reduced. Savings above £16,000 means you are not eligible for UC at all.
