Concrete Tile Costs 2026
Concrete tiles are the most popular roofing material in the UK for a reason: they are durable, cost-effective, and available in a massive range of styles. But they come with specific structural requirements you can't ignore.

Standard Concrete Tiling

*Estimates include battening, breathable underlay, and standard ridge tiling. Specialized dry-fix systems may add £500-£1,000 to the total bill.
The Weight Warning
Concrete tiles are heavy. A standard installation weighs between 46kg and 54kg per m².
If your roof currently has slate (30kg/m²), switching to concrete adds 2 tons of extra weight to a typical semi-detached roof. Failure to reinforce rafters can lead to structural collapse.
The "Porous Tile" Problem
As concrete tiles age (30+ years), their protective coating wears off. The tile begins to absorb water, which can double its weight when it rains and causes the tile to "spall" (crumble) during winter frosts. If you see heavy moss growth, it's a sign your tiles are becoming porous.
Fast Install
Interlocking designs mean a 2-person team can tile a standard roof in just 2 days.
Fire Resistant
Concrete has a Class A fire rating, providing superior protection compared to felt or thatch.
Cost Effective
The lowest cost-per-year of any pitched roofing material over a 50-year period.
